2008 North Carolina State Fair

Fall is officially here with the return of the N. C. State Fair. This is something that I look forward to each year. Here is a little history on the North Carolina State Fair. The fair first started in 1853 by the State Agricultural Society for 4 days. The largest of which had 4,000 attendants. In 1900 the first food booths appeared which were ran by churches and civic groups. Many presidents have made speeches and many developments occurred. In 2007, the fair had a record attendance of 858,611 with the second Saturday having 145,955 fairgoers. That is a lot of people. Go here for more history.

Here are 10 things I love about the N. C. State Fair…(In no particular order)
1. Giant Prize Winning Vegetables
2. Funnel Cakes
3. The amount and quality of mullets that are seen around the fairgrounds.
4. Bluegrass Music
5. Livestock
6. Pig Races
7. Tractor Pulls
8. Local Art and Craft Exhibits
9. Fireworks
10. Roasted Corn

These are just 10 of the many great things at the fair. There are life risking rides and money stealing attractions like The Largest Rate Alive. But the fair also holds many historic exhibits and great places to eat food.

What are you looking forward to at this year’s fair?
